Inductive sensors

induktive naeherungsschalter sensortechnik dietz01

Inductive proximity sensors work contactless and so they are proximity switches triggered by metallic objects approximating to the sensing face.

An inductive proximity switch consists of a high frequency oscillator, a flip-flop and a downstream amplifier. The oscillator produces a high frequency alternating field in front of the sensing face. When a electrically conductive material (i.e. steel, copper, aluminium, graphite) is present, then eddy currents are induced in the material which absorb energy from the oscillator. The oscillator voltage decreases and the downstream flip-flop toggles the output state.

A detailed description of the function and a glossary are here.

Product catalog

Proximity sensors from Dietz are available in a wide range of shapes and materials with sensing distances up to 250mm (≈10in) as 2-wire, 3-wire or 4-wire, for direct or universal current, with switching ouput or analog output. They are used in the most different industries in standard applications as in special applications as well where the highest sturdiness and function reliability are essential, even where a solution with common switches is hardly to find.

Inductive high and deep temperature sensors.

Common inductive sensors are designed only for environment temperatures of –25…+70 °C (–13…158 °F). Operating nearly at the temperature limits decreases the service life. Operating above the superior temperature limit may result in function faults. There the application range of high and deep temperature sensors from Dietz starts.

The use of special components and materials make possible permanent environment temperatures up to +180 °C (356 °F) for sensors with integrated signal processor and up to 300 C (572 °F) for sensors with separate cable amplifier depending on the serie. Due to the largely modular composition, e.g. the sensor length, cable length or the cable material can be selected if necessary. Types from M5 to M80 with sensing distances up to 50 mm offer a wide range of applications, usually in metallurgical works, glassworks or on autoclaves.

The deep temperature sensors are suitable for temperatures down to –100 °C (–148 °F), i.e. in refrigerated warehouses or special application in the food industry, depending on the type.
